What are Manuka Honey Lozenges?

Manuka Honey Lozenges are a soothing easy to use non-medicated treatment for sore throats and contain 100% New Zealand made Manuka honey. This Manuka honey is quality tested and contains the special ingredient known as Unique Manuka Factor (UMF®), which is not found in all Manuka honeys, and in this product is guaranteed to a level of between UMF®10 and  UMF®15. Manuka Honey Lozenges also contain propolis, natural lemon flavouring, peppermint oil and menthol crystals.

What are the Benefits of Manuka Honey?

Honey has traditionally been used for thousands of years by ancient civilizations for its nutritional and medicinal properties. A new interest has emerged in the scientific community in the potential of natural products with medicinal properties, which includes Manuka honey. More understanding is being sought and gained about the unique components of Manuka honey and how they work, using modern methods of chemical analysis. Over recent years clinical studies have confirmed some of the properties that honey has been traditionally known for and this has led to studies into the medical applications and health benefits of Manuka honey. These include antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties, which can be applied to treating burns and ulcers.

What are the Benefits and Ingredients of Manuka Honey Lozenges?

The combination of ingredients found in Manuka Honey Lozenges 10+UMF® are helpful in soothing a sore throat, reducing inflammation and pain and also, with antimicrobial activity they can help combat infection that may be the cause of a sore throat.

Propolis:

Propolis is produced by honey bees from resins collected from buds and other plant tissues, which the bees mix with wax and pollen. This becomes propolis, which the bees use to protect, repair and sanitise the hive. Propolis is rich is bioactive chemicals including flavonoids and triterpenes and has antioxidant antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties1, 2. Manuka Honey Lozenges contain 9mg propolis per lozenge.

Natural Lemon flavouring:

Lemon is high in vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant and also has antimicrobial properties that may be helpful in fighting infection.

Peppermint Oil:

Peppermint oil is widely used to soothe a sore throat and has traditionally been used for digestive disorders and headache. It is thought to have antioxidant, antimicrobial and decongestant properties. When combined with honey, peppermint oil has a soothing effect on the throat.

Menthol Crystals:

Menthol is extracted from the peppermint plant and has soothing and cooling properties that contribute to its effectiveness in relieving symptoms of a sore throat. It also acts as a decongestant and topical analgesic.

Serving suggestions of Manuka Honey Lozenges:

Slowly dissolve one lozenge in the mouth and repeat up to 5 times per day as required.

Caution:

Propolis can cause severe allergic reactions in some people. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult your healthcare practitioner before use. These lozenges are not suitable for children under 2 years.
