What is UMF®?

The Unique Manuka Factor (UMF®) is a registered trademark for a grading system that ensures a Manuka honey product originates from the nectar of the Manuka bush, Leptospermum scoparium, which is indigenous to New Zealand. Manuka honey that has been given a UMF® grade is guaranteed as genuine with certified purity and quality, and contains the unique signature compounds characteristic of this honey. These are natural key markers of Manuka honey and include leptosperin, DHA (dihydroxyacetone) and methylglyoxal that are identified using scientific methods and contribute to the unique health promoting properties of Manuka honey. The amount of leptosperin is consistent in all UMF® grades of Manuka honey at 100mg/kg. However the amount of methylglyoxal increases and in UMF® 20+ Manuka Honey the methylglyoxal level is least 829 mg/kg.

What are the Benefits of UMF® 8+ Manuka Honey?
