MENS Proformance Testosterone Support

What is MENS Proformance?

Mens Proformance is a formulated blend of natural herbal extracts, vitamins and minerals designed to support men’s general health and wellbeing, particularly prostate health, as well as supporting reproductive function, sexual function and performance, energy levels and vitality.

Why use MENS Proformance?

Many factors can affect testosterone levels, which fall naturally with increasing age. This decline can be speeded up by unhealthy lifestyle choices like poor diet, too much alcohol and lack of exercise, obesity, stress, lack of quality sleep, and exposure to toxins in the environment or diet. Mens Proformance is a formulated blend of natural herbal extracts and nutrients designed to support men’s general health and wellbeing, particularly prostate health, as well as supporting sexual function energy levels and vitality. Mens Proformance also supports healthy testosterone levels, which promotes healthy muscle mass, libido, virility, sexual performance and fertility.

What are the Key Benefits of MENS Proformance?

  • Natural herbal ingredients
  • boosts energy levels and vitality
  • improves sex drive and sexual function
  • supports reproductive and prostate health
  • supports healthy testosterone levels to reduce the impact of testosterone decline with aging
  • supports bone strength and muscle mass
  • supports cognitive function and reduces stress
  • promotes a healthy immune system

How does testosterone work?

Testosterone is the male hormone responsible for development of male characteristics such as body hair, increased muscle and bone mass and a deeper voice. Testosterone also controls sexual function, libido (sex drive) and fertility (sperm production), and supports the production of red blood cells. Testosterone is produced in the testes and circulates in the blood bound to a protein called sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), leaving only a small amount of bioavailable testosterone, which is hormone that can interact with its target cells and tissues to induce specific physiological outcomes. With aging less testosterone is produced by the testes, and SHBG increases, which reduces the bioavailability of testosterone as well as the amount of testosterone. Also, some testosterone is converted in the prostate and testes to its more potent metabolite dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is thought to correlate more accurately than testosterone to male sexual function and is also responsible for hair loss and prostate problems1.

What happens when testosterone levels fall?

As men age their testosterone levels drop and this usually begins from the age of 30, with a decrease of around 1-2% per year2. Because of its vital role in men’s sexual and general health, a decrease in testosterone, which is part of the natural aging process, is reflected in several changes throughout the body, as well changes in mental health and sexual function.

These include:
  • loss of libido and erectile dysfunction
  • decreased muscle mass and increased fat
  • reduced energy and sense of wellbeing
  • reduced bone mineral density and increased risk of osteoporosis
  • decreased body hair and skin thickness
  • irritability, depression and reduced quality of sleep
  • poor concentration and memory

Health checks:

It is important to make sure that symptoms of low testosterone levels are not due to an underlying health problem, as some of these symptoms can be due to conditions such as depression, diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

What is an antioxidant?

An antioxidant is a substance that that protects the body from damage due to oxidative stress, caused by free radicles, which are oxygen molecules containing a single electron, making them highly reactive as they scavenge to find another unpaired electron.

What is an adaptogen?

An adaptogen is a plant-derived substance that helps the body manage the physiological effects of stress and adapt to the changes experienced, without unwanted or toxic side effects.

What is an aphrodisiac?

In popular culture, an aphrodisiac is a substance that can increase libido. It is not the same as a medical solution for a physical condition such as erectile dysfunction, that can be treated with medication.

What are the Ingredients of MENS Proformance?

MENS Proformance blends a selection of herbal extracts, some of which have been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years, with minerals and vitamins that support general health and wellbeing.

Each capsule of MENS Proformance contains the following ingredients:
  • Fenugreek seed extract (Trigonella foenum-graecum) 400mg (50% saponins)
  • Grapeseed (vitis vinifera) 75mg (equivalent to Proanthocyanins)
  • Panax Ginseng root 450mg (equivalent to dry root)
  • Tongkat Ali root (Eurycoma longifolia) 5000mg (equivalent to dry root)
  • Selenium (as selenomethionine) 25mcg
  • Zinc (as zinc gluconate) 3.5mg
  • Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) 6mcg
Fenugreek plant (Trigonella foenum-graecum):

Fenugreek is an annual plant belonging to the Fabaceae family that is native to Eastern Europe and parts of Asia and cultivated all over the world for its use in cooking and the medicinal properties of its seeds. Fenugreek has been used for its various health benefits in traditional Chinese medicine and also by ancient Greeks and Egyptians for helping with childbirth, stimulating lactation, treating impotence and for its health benefits in digestion problems, infections, fever, ulcers, and other conditions. Fenugreek is still used in herbal medicine today for its many properties including antidiabetic, antioxidant, cholesterol lowering, antiinflammatory, immunomodulatory and antitumor properties3, 4, 5. Active components isolated from extract of Fenugreek seeds include steroidal compounds like glycosides and saponins3, 4. Studies with Fenugreek extracts support its effectiveness in promoting lean body mass, stabilising blood sugar levels and lowering cholesterol3, 5 also in improving libido and quality of life, based on self-reported satisfaction with muscle strength, energy and well-being6. The outcomes of a study in healthy aging males indicated Fenugreek seed extract was effective in reducing symptoms of low testosterone, improving sexual function and increasing levels of serum testosterone7.

Grapeseed (vitis vinifera):

The common Grape Vine is grown in many temperate regions and the fruit is eaten fresh or used to make wine. The seeds are rich in proanthocyanins, a flavonoid and one of the most potent natural antioxidants for removing free radicles that cause oxidative damage to cells. Proanthocyanins also have other health benefits including anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties and a possible role in protecting against cardiovascular diseases 8, 9. There is also some evidence that grape seed extract supports prostate health and may protect against prostate cancer8. Animal studies indicate that grapeseed extract may support cognitive function and help improve memory10.

Panax Ginseng:

Panax Ginseng, also known as Korean, Chinese or Red Ginseng, is a perennial plant that grows in the mountains of Eastern Asia. The root of Panax Ginseng has been used as a traditional medicine for thousands of years to enhance and restore health and well-being, improve energy levels, and to enhance sexual performance. In contemporary herbal medicine extract of Panax ginseng root is used to enhance physical performance, promote vitality, improve resistance to stress and support a healthy immune system11, 12, 13. Panax ginseng has been described as an adaptogen due to these many medicinal properties and the main pharmacologically active component in Panax ginseng extract that contributes to its properties is the triterpenoid saponin component known as ginsenoside11. Panax Ginseng extract is also used as an alternative treatment for erectile dysfunction12, 14, and is supported by a review of clinical studies that have indicated that Panax Ginseng extract is effective in the treatment of erectile dysfunction13. The mechanism by which Panax Ginseng extract is thought to work is by relaxation of the smooth muscle of the corpus cavernosum (erectile tissue in the penis) by increasing release of nitric oxide, which improves blood flow to the penis, rather than by increasing levels of testosterone13.

Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia):

Tongkat Ali is a flowering plant belonging to the Simaroubaceae family and is native to South East Asia, particularly Indonesia and Malaysia. Locally Tongkat Ali is known as Pasak Bumi and has long been used in herbal traditional medicine for its many medicinal properties, including as a general tonic to improve physical and mental energy, for gastrointestinal problems and as an aphrodisiac. In contemporary herbal medicine, Tongkat Ali is used to improve libido and energy, and boost testosterone levels; also, as an alternative testosterone replacement therapy15, 16, 17. The main pharmacologically active components in extract of Tongkat Ali are eurypeptides that include eurycomanol, eurycomanone, and eurycomalactone and are thought to be responsible for its bioactive properties17, 18. Clinical studies indicate that Tongkat Ali is effective in improving sexual health, libido and sexual performance; enhancing fertility by improving sperm quality; also, in treating erectile dysfunction17, 19, 20, 21. Tongkat Ali is considered a potential adaptogen by reducing the physiological effects of stress22, and has ergogenic effects in enhancing physical performance by optimising use of energy sources in the body16, 23.

Selenium:

Selenium is a mineral that is found in the soil and in foods like Brazil nuts, cereal grains and legumes. It is an essential trace element, needed in small amounts for the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase that protects the body against oxidative damage. Selenium also plays an important role in cardiovascular health, maintaining a healthy immune system and is thought to boost testosterone and support male fertility by promoting healthy sperm and semen quality24, 25.

Zinc:

Zinc is a trace element found in meat, vegetable and seafood and is essential for many aspects of human health, such as a healthy immune system, digestive system, skin structure, central nervous system and reproductive system. Zinc concentrates in the prostate and levels of zinc in the semen of infertile men was found to be lower than in fertile men, which may contribute to low quality sperm and infertility26. Testosterone synthesis is also affected by zinc levels. In a study with healthy men, zinc deficiency was found to reduce testosterone levels and zinc supplementation increased testosterone, indicating a role for zinc in testosterone synthesis. Reduced testosterone levels affect male sexual health and can contribute to erectile dysfunction and loss of libido27, 28.

Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol):

Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) is important for maintaining healthy bones and is synthesised in the skin by the action of sunlight; it is also obtained in the diet from oily fish, eggs and dairy products. Vitamin D regulates calcium metabolism, bone remodelling (bone formation and resorption) and bone mineralisation and is essential for strong healthy bones. There is some clinical evidence that vitamin D plays an important role in men’s sexual and reproductive health by improving testosterone levels, erectile function and sperm quality29, 30, 31.
