What are the Contraindications/Interactions of Coenzyme Q10 200mg?
- CoQ10 should be used under a Healthcare professional’s supervision if an individual is taking a blood-thinning medication such as Warfarin.
- Patients with liver disease should be cautious whilst exercising and taking this formulation. More than 300mg of CoQ10 per day may elevate the liver enzyme levels in this cohort.
- Patients with hepatic insufficiency and/or biliary obstruction should use this product with caution as conditions may increase CoQ10 concentrations.
- CoQ10 is chemically alike to Vitamin K2 and therefore is capable to promote coagulation like Vitamin K2. Taking both CoQ10 and Vitamin K2 at the same time may cause an additive effect, thereby increasing the risk of clotting in people taking anticoagulants.
- Individuals who are on cholesterol lowering medications may require higher doses of CoQ10. For a low dose therapy take 50 -100mg of CoQ10 daily. For a medium to high dose therapy take 100 -200mg of CoQ10 daily, or take 2mg of CoQ10 per kg of body weight (as a general guideline).
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
- During pregnancy, this formulation should be taken under the supervision of a Healthcare professional. Supplementation should only be recommended to an individual when the benefits outweigh the risks. For women at risk of developing preeclampsia, doses of 200mg per day of CoQ10 for the first 5 months during pregnancy have safely been used.
- This formulation is not recommended whilst breastfeeding due to lack of safety data.
